May Goal for One Monthly Goal

For May, I'm keeping the same theme going from last month and starting Sarah's Tree of Life trek quilt.

Hers will be a scrappy log cabin quilt in a tree of life pattern.  I'm super excited about this idea.  I played around with it for quite a while in EQ7 before I merged my 2 favorite ideas for her quilt into this one layout.

I've divided the blocks into 3 sections: the leaves, the trunk and the background.  The leaves will all have white-on-white centers with mostly light and dark green surround (30 blocks.) The 3 center leaves will have the same white centers with all light green strips (3 blocks).

The trunks will all have traditional red centers with either all scrappy brown (6 blocks) or brown with low volume strips (6 blocks.)

Finally the background blocks (19 of 'em) will all have yellow centers with all low-volume strips.  That should all add up to 64 blocks for this 8x8 blocks layout.

So, my goal for this month is to get all these blocks cut out and at least half of the blocks pieced together (that's 32 blocks.)  For me, this is a pretty tall order, but things should be leveling out at work so hopefully if I keep up with home life, I'll be able to spend more time in the evenings on this =)

  1. Fabulous concept. Can't wait to see your progress. Log cabins seem so easy and somewhat mindless, but there's a lot of stitching in each block. Setting your goal at half is reasonable.

  2. Wow--you really have some sewing ahead--I hope you make a lot of progress! It's a very cool design and I can't wait to see it come together!

  3. Wow, that's an amazingly cool project, and ambitious for one month. You go! Love the fabrics.

  4. You have such a great eye for color, I love these fabric pulls! I am really looking forward to seeing your design!

  5. Good thing I'm not there Heather or that wonderful bunch of fabrics would be soggy from me drooling all over them. This is going to be an amazing quilt!

Thank you for stopping by! I love to hear from you. Come back soon!
