January ALOYF Finish--Charm Topper
I'm really happy with this finish. I started it about a year ago when A Quilting Life posted these pics. I had a couple mini-charm packs hanging around, but I didn't get it finished in time for Sherri's parade, and it was set gently aside ...
It's not at all how imagined quilting it when I started out. First of all, I used aqua thread to quilt the design. This color was in all the charms I used, but only secondarily. I thought it might help tie it all together.
I also mixed FMQ with straight line quilting. I kinda like the art-decoish feel of the border. It's also the first time I've played with extending the "main" quilting outside of the central design. I can see having a little more fun with that again sometime.
Finally, I slowed down my FMQ a bit. I think I've been taking it a little too fast in the past, but taking it down to medium speed gave me a lot more control and helped me feel more successful about the whole process.
